Sadness

Post by: Chris on December 5th, 2008 | File Under Family

Some sad news today. Our little gerbil, Grace, passed away last night. She went to sleep in her little house w/her two sisters last night, and when we checked on her this morning, she was gone. The poor little thing, at least she went quietly and while she was sleeping. The kiddo and I are very sad.
I really cannot deal w/death very well. I tend to ignore it, cuz when I think on it, I start crying. I think that every life is precious and should be valued no matter how small the creature is. and I am even having a very hard time w/this loss too. I mean really, its only a Gerbil! Why do I get so upset?! I never even wanted them in the first place, mostly cuz I knew that I would get overly attached to them. Sometimes its better for me to have nothing. That way I dont get attached to anything, I wont have to get deal w/the entire situtation, and I dont have to worry about any insurance quotes either.
I really could use some sleep right about now. ugh.

our little gerbil

Post by: Chris on December 4th, 2008 | File Under Family

Our poor little Gerbil Grace, might have a broken leg. Chloe, our foster cat, grabbed her up this morning faster than I could blink, when I was re-arranging their cage, and by the time I shook her out of Chloe’s sharp paws, somehow Chloe hurt the poor critter. The long story version is on Rosey Cats Blog. But here is the pic of her just tonight. The poor little critter! Oh, and we do have a Vet appointment on Saturday for Xrays and what-not.

Duel Registration

Post by: Chris on December 3rd, 2008 | File Under Scouts

Well we just got back from a lovely Scout meeting. I just have to stop going to these things as I get way too stressed out! This time tho, I didnt really have a choice as I had to turn in all the Treasurers stuff as I resigned from being Troop Treasurer.
My son really likes the boys in the Troop. However, thats about the only thing he likes. I wont really get into it, but they do such lame stuff in their meetings that in my opinion, are a waste of ‘my’ time. He wont leave the Troop either. His best of all best friends, lets call him “M” is in the Troop. My Son and M have been together since the beginning of time, I swear, and he is a great kid too, so I totally understand him not wanting to leave the Troop.

K, next step. We, okay, I have been looking into different Troops and to make a long story a little shorter, We have been invited to join another Troop! This Troop is just starting, new kids, new everything. My son would be ASPL and be a major leader/teacher in this new Troop. He knows the boys there and are good friends w/them as well. So I think, wow, this is great! a new Troop, no stress, close to home, great friends . . . lets switch Troops! but nooooo my son wont leave the current Troop. Okay, fine, so I think, since he likes both Troops so much, lets do them both! The BSA does have wants called Duel Registration, where a boy can be in two Troops at the same time. Its kinda like if us adults would have two home based business‘. No biggie, right?
So I bring this up to the Advancement Chair on the first Troop and she pretty much freaks out: Why does he want to do both? is he not happy here? does he not like it here anymore? does he not want the structure of this troop? does he want to be a slacker and pick and choose the fun meetings in each Troop and bounch back and forth? She did not really say that last comment flat out, but thats what she meant and we both know it! ugh. She had me cornered and I did not expect that, so did not have any suave comebacks. errr.
Anyways, today then, I email the Commitee Chair and she basicly asks, What is the benifits of being in two troops and why would someone what to do that!? good gosh. We KNOW it would be twice the work, twice the time and twice everything: is that so hard to understand?! that a boy would actually WANT to do that !? I think it is very admirable that my son would want to be in two Troops. I am very proud of him. He is a great kid.
So we have a lot of things to think about. I just know that I am not happy in the current Troop, but I also know that really does not matter one tidbit! So its up to my kiddo. Whatever he decides is good with me. *sigh*

I think I am done ranting and raving now. sheesh.
XO

A long week this will be . . .

Post by: Chris on December 1st, 2008 | File Under Every Day Things

eGads this is going to be a fetchin’ long week. We have something going on every night of the week. Well, except for tonight. We rented Hancock; I love it! We have never seen it before and I thought it was great. Of course, it helps to have Will Smith as the main man, he is like totally gorgeous. If I had him around I sure would not need any moving companies to help me get my stuff moved!
We also made Rice Crispy Treats tonight to go with the movie. We make them with Strawberry Rice Crispies, the only way to go as those are thee best. Yum. I hope I dont eat them all up. I tend to do that when they are left on the counter. ah Well, time to go watch TV, heeheehee. Since it is our only night off (sorta speak) I am going to watch Terminator-Sarah Connor Chronicals. Way Fun. HA!

Be Safe

Post by: Chris on November 30th, 2008 | File Under Family

001Before we even moved into our house, I had a Security System installed. It was the best thing I have ever done. We have sensors on all our doors and window, plus, some windows have what is called shatter, or shock, sensors. Normally if the window opens, the sensor will detect that, but what if the glass is broken and the window technically never opens . . .? This way if the window is broken, we are still safe. As you can tell by the picture, my Living Room door is open. Always nice to know what windows and doors are open! Plus, every time the door opens (like if the kiddo is trying to sneak outside) there is a lovely chime that rings to let me know. I totally love my emergency response system. It also has a carbon dioxide sensor and smoke alarm. They are all hooked up to the Company that monitors me and if there is a problem, they send the police or fire department, depending on the situation of course. Sorry to say, the Fire Department did, well almost, come to our house. The first time I lit a fire in our fireplace I did not do a very good job and smoked up the house . . . . just a little! But it was enough to send the Fire Department. However, I did receive a phone call from the Company that monitors me in the nick of time, and I explained it all to them and they called off the Firemen. It was a tad embarrassing because I could hear the fire engines coming down the street, but also very nice to know that I am being watched over, and would always be safe.

A nice long weekend

Post by: Chris on November 29th, 2008 | File Under Family

007I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, we sure did; check out the Turkey! YUM!

Plus, we had so much fun shopping on Black Friday yesterday! To be truthful, I have never ever ever shopped on the Friday after Thanksgiving before. kinda strange, but I really hate crowds. Yesterday was nice tho; not too many people! We only went to a few stores and did have to wait in long lines, but nothing like I expected. It was a good day. My kiddo and I went together and got most all of our Christmas Shopping done. The hard part is the parents. I mean really, what the heck do we get our parents . . . ? the people that have everything! It is very hard. We are going out again today, so hope to find some small knick-knack so they at least have some presents to open.
